The Montys is an annual black-tie event organized by the SDSU Alumni Association to honor its campus personnel’s remarkable achievements. The year of 2012 features a celestial theme in line with SDSU contributors who were part of a successful Mars Rover mission.

To emphasize the award gala’s 2012 theme, I used a star as my main design element in 2 ways - in a representational and literal form, and one that is more abstract. The deconstructed star mimics a constellation that is visible in all of the panels of the invitation and RSVP card, and the awards night program. The more literal stars are concentrated into the event date showcased on the RSVP card and the envelopes. The celestial-themed invitation set is tied together to SDSU by using 2 of the school colors,
gold and black.

As a unique element in the paper system, the RSVP comes attached to the invitation and later will be torn off. Even after separating these two pieces, both the invitation and the RSVP card still present a complete design on their own.

Both envelopes have a simpler tone to them, with just a hint of the representational star, and a bolder use of the colors.
